Darkness Becomes Her (Gods & Monsters #1) by Kelly Keaton

Darkness Becomes Her (Gods & Monsters, #1)Darkness Becomes Her by Kelly Keaton

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Absolutely loved it!

This book has some of everything I love to read about and more. It has elements from Greek mythology like the gods and goddesses and some of their monsters. There are also vampires, shifters, witches, and others that I couldn't even give a name to.

The book is about Ari, who knows she is different because of her silvery hair and teal eyes. What she doesn't initially know is that her differences from others are more than just how she looks. I love Ari. She's not just your normal heroine. Ari is one tough cookie. She has attitude and actually has been trained to defend herself or even fight back.

Ari heads to New 2 to find out about her mother and her past. New 2 is what New Orleans has become after two massive hurricanes nearly destroyed it 13 years ago.

Ari makes some new friends and even a cute boy after she arrives in New 2. First, there's Crank, real name Jenna, who delivers mail between The Rim and New 2. Dub does tricks and is a grave robber. Henri seems pretty normal.

Violet is the youngest of the bunch. She has fangs and is friends with a small white alligator named Pascal. I love Violet. She is soo smart for her age.

The cute boy that Ari meets is named Sebastian. He has black hair and amazing gray eyes. It seems like Sebastian and Ari have an instant connection. He helps out a lot in Ari's search for information about her past.

I cannot wait for the next book! I want to know more about all the characters and what will happen to them. I bet I will enjoy the next one just as much as I did this one. Don't know how I'll be able to wait for it.

On My Wishlist (5)

On My Wishlist is a fun weekly event hosted by Book Chick City and runs every Saturday. It lets me share which books I really want but haven't gotten a hold of yet. They can be old, new, or one that has yet to be released.

On my wishlist this week is the rest of the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning. I just finished the first one, Darkfever, yesterday, and I really enjoyed it.

Gosh darn thing won't put them in the correct order even though I have it the right way on my posting page. /sigh  Anyways....

Faefever (Fever, #3)
Faefever (Fever #3)
By Karen Marie Moning

He calls me his Queen of the Night. I’d die for him. I’d kill for him, too. When MacKayla Lane receives a torn page from her dead sister’s journal, she is stunned by Alina’s desperate words. And now MacKayla knows that her sister’s killer is close. But evil is closer. And suddenly the sidhe-seer is on the hunt: For answers. For revenge. And for an ancient book of dark magic so evil, it corrupts anyone who touches it.

Mac’s quest for the Sinsar Dubh takes her into the mean, shape-shifting streets of Dublin, with a suspicious cop on her tail. Forced into a dangerous triangle of alliance with V’lane, an insatiable Fae prince of lethally erotic tastes, and Jericho Barrons, a man of primal desires and untold secrets, Mac is soon locked in a battle for her body, mind, and soul.

As All Hallows’ Eve approaches and the city descends into chaos, as a shocking truth about the Dark Book is uncovered, not even Mac can prevent a deadly race of immortals from shattering the walls between worlds—with devastating consequences.…

Dreamfever (Fever, #4)
Dreamfever (Fever #4)
By Karen Marie Moning

They may have stolen my past, but I’ll never let them take my future.

When the walls between Man and Fae come crashing down, freeing the insatiable, immortal Unseelie from their icy prison, MacKayla Lane is caught in a deadly trap. Captured by the Fae Lord Master, she is left with no memory of who or what she is: the only sidhe-seer alive who can track the Sinsar Dubh, a book of arcane black magic that holds the key to controlling both worlds.

Clawing her way back from oblivion is only the first step Mac must take down a perilous path, from the battle-filled streets of Dublin to the treacherous politics of an ancient, secret sect, through the tangled lies of men who claim to be her allies into the illusory world of the Fae themselves, where nothing is as it seems—and Mac is forced to face a soul-shattering truth.

Who do you trust when you can’t even trust yourself?

Shadowfever (Fever, #5)
Shadowfever (Fever #5)
By Karen Marie Moning

MacKayla Lane was just a child when she and her sister, Alina, were given up for adoption and banished from Ireland forever.
Twenty years later, Alina is dead and Mac has returned to the country that expelled them to hunt her sister’s murderer. But after discovering that she descends from a bloodline both gifted and cursed, Mac is plunged into a secret history: an ancient conflict between humans and immortals who have lived concealed among us for thousands of years.

What follows is a shocking chain of events with devastating consequences, and now Mac struggles to cope with grief while continuing her mission to acquire and control the Sinsar Dubh—a book of dark, forbidden magic scribed by the mythical Unseelie King, containing the power to create and destroy worlds.

In an epic battle between humans and Fae, the hunter becomes the hunted when the Sinsar Dubh turns on Mac and begins mowing a deadly path through those she loves.

Who can she turn to? Who can she trust? Who is the woman haunting her dreams? More important, who is Mac herself and what is the destiny she glimpses in the black and crimson designs of an ancient tarot card?

From the luxury of the Lord Master’s penthouse to the sordid depths of an Unseelie nightclub, from the erotic bed of her lover to the terrifying bed of the Unseelie King, Mac’s journey will force her to face the truth of her exile, and to make a choice that will either save the world . . . or destroy it.

What's on your wishlist?

Bloodfever (Fever, #2)
Bloodfever (Fever #2)
by Karen Marie Moning

I used to be your average, everyday girl but all that changed one night in Dublin when I saw my first Fae, and got dragged into a world of deadly immortals and ancient secrets...

In her fight to stay alive, MacKayla must find the Sinsar Dubh—a million-year-old book of the blackest magic imaginable, which holds the key to power over the worlds of both the Fae and Man. Pursued by assassins, surrounded by mysterious figures she knows she can’t trust, Mac finds herself torn between two deadly and powerful men: V’lane, the immortal Fae Prince, and Jericho Barrons, a man as irresistible as he is dangerous.

For centuries the shadowy realm of the Fae has coexisted with that of humans. Now the walls between the two are coming down, and Mac is the only thing that stands between them.

Darkfever (Fever #1) by Karen Marie Moning

Darkfever (Fever, #1)Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Well, my first dip into a Fae wold was a great one. Seelie or Unseelie, I'm pretty freaked out by both. Haha. The Fae aren't exactly the nicest things to want to hang out with.

MacKayla Lane, or Mac as she likes to go by, is just having a tough time. Her sister, Alina, is murdered while studying abroad in Dublin, Ireland. Mac decides to go to Dublin to find who murdered her sister. What she doesn't know is that she's going to find out more about herself and her sister than she ever wanted to know.

Turns out Mac is a sidhe-seer, someone who can see through the glamour that the Fae use to hide their true selves from humans. To say that she is freaked out by this new knowledge of herself is a major understatement.

In Dublin, Mac meets a man that can help her find out who murdered her sister. He can also teach her about this new world she's been thrust into. His name is Jericho Barrons, and she's not exactly happy about needing his help. Barrons sounds hot, but I'm still undecided as to whether or not I actually like him. I need to find out more about him in the next book.

I think I'm really going to enjoy this series. Hopefully I have time to read the next book in the series Bloodfever (Fever, #2) really soon.

Twice Bitten (Chicagoland Vampires #3) by Chloe Neill

Twice Bitten (Chicagoland Vampires, #3)Twice Bitten by Chloe Neill

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I re-read this before the new one, Hard Bitten, comes out. Posting a review now, since I didn't when I read it the first time.

This book is even better the second time around! I swear if I ever happened to lay eyes on Mr. Ethan Sullivan, I would probably melt. That man, or should I say vampire, is seriously too yummy!

So in this one, not only does Merit have to deal with the vampire issues like usual, her Master, Ethan, is throwing her to the wolves, literally. The four shifter packs are coming to Chicago for the convocation to decide whether to head to their home land in Alaska, or stay and face the changes that they can feel are coming. Gabriel, alpha of the North American Central pack, has asked Ethan and Merit to help with security at ConPack.

Of course, the whole ConPack process has problems from the get-go. Turns out someone is trying to kill Gabriel. Luckily, Merit is a super, powerful vampire. So, she's just the one to protect him. Plenty of action going on in this book.

If you wanted to see some more heat between Ethan and Merit, this book has it and more. Whew.... Love me some Ethan. Green is my new favorite color. Haha.

Can't wait for Hard Bitten (Chicagoland Vampires, #4)!! It will be out next week!!

"Waiting On" Wednesday (6)

"Waiting On"  Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week I'm waiting on:

Dearly, Departed

by Lia Habel

As far as romantic pairings go in the year 2195, you don't get much more unlikely than an upper-class schoolgirl and a poor miner from enemy tribes. Filter in the fact that he's a zombie, and you're definitely talking about star-crossed love.

Dearly, Departed is a cyber-Victorian/steampunk romance that takes place in the shadow of a new ice age. Nora Dearly, a mouthy teenage girl and apparent orphan, leaves school for Christmas - only to be dragged into the night by the living dead. Luckily for her, though, the good ones got to her first. From her reanimated rescuers she learns not only that zombies are roaming the countryside, but that her father is one - and that he's in terrible trouble. She also meets Captain Bram Griswold, a noble, strong, and rather sweet undead boy for whom she starts to fall.
Meanwhile, her best friend, Pamela Roe, is just trying to carry on with life as best she can in the wake of Nora's disappearance - when she ends up killing an evil zombie in self-defense. Pam is galvanized into action, and ends up leading a group of survivors as the city of New London is thronged by the ravenous dead.

Upon hearing of Pamela's plight, Nora and Bram set out to rescue her friends, find her missing father, and maybe just save what's left of the world.

Oh, poor May! It's Aisling all over again! Haha.

You'd think that becoming a wyvern's mate would mean that things might calm down or something. You know, just let the lovers be happy for a bit. But if there is a wrench our dear author can throw in the works, she throws not just one but all of them.

At the beginning of Up In Smoke, we find May stuck in Abaddon, missing Gabriel, and about to become her demon lord Magoth's consort. Gabriel quickly comes up with a plan to get her out of Abaddon, but maybe May was just a little bit safer there.

Everything that can go wrong for May does go wrong. Her twin, Cyrene, has another problem that she needs May's help to fix. The dragons are always fighting over one thing or another. Then, there's the little matter of Magoth wandering around the human world.

Through all the problems that May faces, this book had me giggling. So far what I've read by Katie MacAlister are some cute, romantic books that leave me feeling cheered up, especially if I wasn't in a good mood before.

Planning to read the last book in the Silver Dragons series, Me and My Shadow (Silver Dragons, #3), in a couple of weeks.

Tall, Dark & Hungry (Argeneau #4) by Lynsay Sands

Tall, Dark & Hungry (Argeneau, #4)Tall, Dark & Hungry by Lynsay Sands

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Loved this one like I love the others before it. It was a cute, happy little read for me.

I love the Argeneau family. I'm soo glad it was finally Bastien's turn to get a little lovin'.

Terri is cute, and she cracks me up sometimes. Terri comes to New York to help her cousin Kate with her wedding to Lucern. While there, she ends up staying with Luc's brother Bastien, and the sparks immediately start flying.

This was a light, funny read like the others before it. I totally need to remember to grab another one of these books if I ever need some cheering up and a great happily ever after ending.

Can't wait till I get a chance to read the next one, A Bite to Remember (Argeneau, #5).

City of Fallen Angels (The Mortal Instruments #4) by Cassandra Clare

City of Fallen Angels (The Mortal Instruments, #4)City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I was soo excited when I found out that Cassie Clare would be writing three more books for the Mortal Instruments series. I absolutely loved the characters when I met them in the first three books.

This book focused a lot more on Simon. It was nice to kind of get more of a feel for somebody other than Clary and Jace.

There's a new guy named Kyle in this one. Yum. I think I kind of love him already. Haha.

Jace and Clary are finally together. You would think that that means everything with them is perfect, but no, there's always some new twist to throw at the happy couple. No happy ending for those two just yet.

I think it's awesome that Luke and Jocelyn are getting married. Hopefully after the Mortal War, things between Downworlders and Shadowhunters will become more friendly. I think the wedding could be a good step in that direction. I also love that Luke is getting a happily ever after of sorts. I <3 him.

We met some new baddies in this book too. And when I say bad, I mean pretty frickin' EVIL. They were awesome though. Caused some pretty big problems for the Shadowhunters.

The ending. Cassie Clare left us with a very frustrating cliffhanger at the very end. Sooo evil..... Haha. Waiting for City of Lost Souls is going to be very hard. I just might make it though, since Clockwork Prince (Infernal Devices, #2) will be out in the fall to distract me.

To finish...... I really enjoyed City of Fallen Angels.

P.S. I bought the Barnes and Noble version of the book, which means I got Jace's letter to Clary in City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments, #3). After reading it, I love him soooo much more. I very nearly teared up when I read it.

She had a score to settle and would do anything to close the portal that led to her unearthly prison. Though an alliance with her compromised Kol's very purpose, something about the little witch overwhelmed his fierce, battle-worn soul. Sweet Venom (Medusa Girls #1)
by Tera Lynn Childs

Grace just moved to San Francisco and is excited to start over at a new school. The change is full of fresh possibilities, but it’s also a tiny bit scary. It gets scarier when a minotaur walks in the door. And even more shocking when a girl who looks just like her shows up to fight the monster.

Gretchen is tired of monsters pulling her out into the wee hours, especially on a school night, but what can she do? Sending the minotaur back to his bleak home is just another notch on her combat belt. She never expected to run into this girl who could be her double, though.

Greer has her life pretty well put together, thank you very much. But that all tilts sideways when two girls who look eerily like her appear on her doorstep and claim they're triplets, supernatural descendants of some hideous creature from Greek myth, destined to spend their lives hunting monsters.

These three teenage descendants of Medusa, the once-beautiful gorgon maligned by myth, must reunite and embrace their fates in this unique paranormal world where monsters lurk in plain sight.
