"Waiting On" Wednesday (2)

"Waiting On"  Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
This week I'm waiting on:

The Goddess Test (Goddess Test #1)
By Aimee Carter

From Goodreads.com:

Every girl who has taken the test has died.

Now it's Kate's turn.

It's always been just Kate and her mom--and now her mother is dying. Her last wish? To move back to her childhood home. So Kate's going to start at a new school with no friends, no other family and the fear her mother won't live past the fall.

Then she meets Henry. Dark. Tortured. And mesmerizing. He claims to be Hades, god of the Underworld--and if she accepts his bargain, he'll keep her mother alive while Kate tries to pass seven tests.

Kate is sure he's crazy--until she sees him bring a girl back from the dead. Now saving her mother seems crazily possible. If she succeeds, she'll become Henry's future bride, and a goddess.

If she fails...
.

I think it sounds really interesting. Plus, I absolutely love mythology. So, I really try to get my hands on books that have some mythology in them.

Teaser Tuesday (2)

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  •  Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

My teaser is from City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments #3) by Cassandra Clare.

She glanced up at Jace. His expression startled her, the blaze in his eyes--they were full of faith in her, of confidence in her abilities.

The Dead Girls' Dance (The Morganville Vampire, #2) by Rachel Caine

The Dead Girls' Dance (The Morganville Vampires, #2)The Dead Girls' Dance by Rachel Caine

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Holy crap! Evil vamps, biker vamp hunters, creepy college guys, crazy chicks, zombies, etc.... This book has it all.

I bet Claire didn't think all that crazy stuff was going to happen when she decided to go to school in Morganville. I nearly forgot half the time that the real reason she is there is to go to school. Doesn't seem like she gets to classes a whole lot.

I enjoyed the book. Claire had quite a few different problems to solve in this one. Luckily, she's pretty smart and resourceful. Love her. Love Shane too. Boy sure has a bunch of problems though. Heck. I love them all. Eve and her Goth-ness and poor Michael, the four of them make a great little family. Can't wait to read the next one.

Fallen (Fallen #1) by Lauren Kate

Fallen (Fallen, #1)Fallen by Lauren Kate

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I couldn't decide whether I thought this book deserved 4 stars or 5 stars, so I'm just going to split the difference and give it 4.5 stars.

Fallen was good. I enjoyed it. I haven't read many stories with angels. So, I would say this was a good one to read to dip my toes into the water.

I was kind of unsure about what was going on during the first half of the book. I guess now that I've finished it I get why. I wondered why things didn't get explained earlier, but since we're following Luce's thoughts, we can't know what she doesn't know ahead of time. Took me the whole book to figure it out. There's still a lot that Luce doesn't know about Daniel and the rest of her friends at the end off the book. So, I'm excited to read Torment (Fallen, #2) as soon as I get a chance. Like Luce, I want to know more about what's going on.

"Waiting On" Wednesday (1)

"Waiting On"  Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week I'm waiting on:
City of Fallen Angels (The Mortal Instruments #4)
By Cassandra Clare

From Amazon:

Who will be tempted by darkness? Who will fall in love, and who will find their relationship torn apart? And who will betray everything they ever believed in?

Love. Blood. Betrayal. Revenge.

In the heart-pounding fourth installment of the Mortal Instruments series, the stakes are higher than ever.

This was my first one of these, so I made it easy. City of Fallen Angels is out in less than two weeks. I'm super excited. I'm planing on re-reading City of Glass before then. Yay!

All she knew was the effect it had on her. Everyone else in the room went out of focus and she melted.

Hallowed Circle (Persephone Alcmedi, #2)Hallowed Circle by Linda Robertson

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Plenty of surprises in this one.

Seph gets nominated to compete in the Eximium to see who is the best for the High Priestess job that is now available. She really doesn't want to, but after she meets one of the other competitors, she decides to compete in order to knock her out of the running. This is no normal contest. There were some pretty crazy tests. It got pretty exciting.

Johnny and Seph also connect some more, and we learn a lot more about her new duties(?). Totally love Johnny. Yum yum.

The relationship between Menessos and Seph has gotten way more complicated. Can't wait to see what happens next.

Met some new witches that should be popping up again soon. They seem a little different. Hopefully, they'll be very good friends for Seph.

Some big stuff happened right at the end of the book. Should be some craziness going on in the next one.

Hoping to read the third book Hallowed Circle (Persephone Alcmedi, #2) soon, since I really enjoyed this last one.

Top 5 Sundays (1) - Books for an Urban Fantasy Newbie

Top 5 Sundays is a weekly meme hosted by Larissa at Larissa's Bookish Life. I liked the topic of this Top 5, so I thought I'd do it even though I only have one follower. I guess this will just be kind of a list that I can look back on next year and see if they are still in my Top 5.  I would think they might change by next year, since I'll have read even more books by then. Yay!

Anyways..... On to my Top 5 Books for an Urban Fantasy Newbie

If I picked a number 1 for this list, this series would be it. I love this series. Totally love Merit. She's the best. Book #4 is out in May! I can't wait!

There's four books in the Aisling Grey: Guardian series. Aisling is awesome. She gets into soo much trouble sometimes, but most of the time it is completely hilarious. These books had me giggling a lot.

I'm almost done with the second book of this series. I love Persephone. She's really strong and determined even though she has all the new responsibilities popping up in her life.

Mercy is a tough chick. She's a mechanic and hangs with werewolves. She's a great heroine.

I've only read this first book of the Nicki Styx series, but I liked it. Poor girl nearly dies, and because of it, she can now see ghosts. It's gonna take some getting used to. I plan to continue with the series as soon as I get a chance.

And that's my Top 5. It was kind of fun. Maybe I'll have to do it again.

Playing With Fire (Silver Dragons #1) by Katie MacAlister

Playing With Fire (Silver Dragons, #1)Playing With Fire by Katie MacAlister

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Loved it! I was sooo excited to see Aisling and most of the gang from the Aisling Grey: Guardian series.

This book was definitely different from how the other series was. Aisling initially fought a lot with Drake about the mating and other things. May didn't really have too many problems with it (I guess I should say she didn't have to many problems with the mating YET. There are still more books to come.) Plus, Gabriel is nowhere near as crazy controlling like Drake. It was nice to get to know Gabriel better. He's sweet.

This book cracks me up like the Aisling Grey: Guardian series did. I'm going to have to fit the second book Up In Smoke (Silver Dragons, #2) into my list of what I want to read next. Can't wait! :-D

Last Sacrifice (Vampire Academy #6) by Richelle Mead

Last Sacrifice (Vampire Academy, #6)Last Sacrifice by Richelle Mead

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was jaw dropping for me. I swear my mouth was probably hanging open half the time I was reading this book. It was sooo awesome!!!

What I'm going to say next could be considered spoilerish, and I don't want to ruin the story ahead of time for anyone, but I'm not completely sure, so here's your warning.....

For the other books, I kind of knew where things were going in them. In this one, I soo did not see things coming. I was completely shocked when I found out who the illegitimate Dragomir child was. I also totally did not know who it was that actually killed Queen Tatiana. My mouth was hanging open for a good while at that.

Now I can't wait for Bloodlines (Bloodlines, #1) to come out. I want to know more about some of the other characters.

In the mean time, I think I'm going to have to find time to check out some of Richelle Mead's other series.

Her Dark Swan series Storm Born (Dark Swan, #1)

and

her Georgina Kincaid series Succubus Blues (Georgina Kincaid, #1)

Spirit Bound (Vampire Academy, #5)Spirit Bound by Richelle Mead

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

FIVE STARS!!! These books just keep getting better and better!!! I was totally like O M G half the time I was reading this book. I was soo glad about some stuff that happened. Was left with a complete mystery at the end. Started reading Last Sacrifice right away. Super sad that it's the last one. I don't want it to end, but I bet it will be good.

Craziness!!! Sooo good!!! It was cool seeing Rose go out by herself. Sooo many things went wrong for everyone. Very interesting. Loved the new characters that were introduced. Had to start Spirit Bound as soon as I was finished with this to find out what happened next.

Shadow Kiss (Vampire Academy, #3)Shadow Kiss by Richelle Mead

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Loved it! Can't believe it turned out the way that it did. Gah! Seriously! I was planning to read something completely different after I finished it, before I finished it. But when I finished it, I just had to read Blood Promise right away. Lol. I think I'm just gonna have to finish up the rest of the series after this. Plus, my brother already read the whole series, and he's been trying to spoil it for me. Eeep! Can't wait to find out what happens next.
