It's Monday! What are you reading? (17)

Hosted by Book Journey

I kind of skipped this last week. Work has been way busier than usual, so I've been reading a lot less. (Sad....) Plus, I'm starting school next Monday, so things aren't looking good for my reading. Might start doing this every other week, or something. We'll see....

The last two weeks I read....

(Lords of the Underworld #1)
by Gena Showalter

(Lords of the Underworld #2)
by Gena Showalter

I'm currently reading....

(Lords of the Underworld #3)
by Gena Showalter

Next, I plan to read....

(Lords of the Underworld #4)
by Gena Showalter

[I'll be reading this whenever it gets here in the mail. If you haven't noticed, I'm kind of liking this series. Haha.]

What about you? What are you reading this week?

Read Dangerously Read-a-thon - Final Report

Final Stats

Read: All I had time to read between working and sleeping was The Darkest Kiss (Lords of the Underworld #2) by Gena Showalter. I had already started it before the read-a-thon, so I finished it up once it started.

Books read: The end of 1 book. Didn't get a chance to start another book before the read-a-thon ended.

Pages read: 103 pages

Total time reading: 3 hours

Best/Worst Book read: I only read the end of 1 book for the whole read-a-thon. It was good. Since I don't have anything to compare with it, I can't give it a best/worst rating. I did like it, and I am continuing with the series.

Did I enjoy the read-a-thon?

I seem to have the worst luck with read-a-thons so far. I participated in three this summer. My first ones ever. I had a great time doing each one. I don't think I was able to finish a whole book in any of them though. I was always working during them. Sucks, but it had to be done.

The mini challenges also make a read-a-thon quite fun, in my opinion. They're a cool way to break up all that reading. (Although, I probably spend way more time on them than I need to. Hehe.)

I want to thank Ren @ All By MyShelf for hosting her first read-a-thon. I had a good time, and I would love to participate again in the future if she does it again.

In My Mailbox (16)

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by The Story Siren where I get to show what new books I've gotten this week. They can be books I've bought, checked out from the library, or actually received in the mail.

I didn't get any books two weeks ago, but I more than made up for it last week. I went to Borders and got a little crazy. Hehe. :-D

Read Dangerously Read-a-thon - Day 3 Updates and Mini Challenges

Update

Currently reading: I will be starting The Darkest Pleasure (Lords of the Underworld #3) by Gena Showalter eventually. Unfortunately, I need to take a nap right now, cuz I have to work again from 5:30PM to around 2:00AM.

So, this is most likely my final totals. (I might get to read a chapter of my book at work on my 30 minute break, but that would be it.) I'll be working when the read-a-thon ends.

Pages read: Part of 1 book, and started a second book.

Books read: 103 pages

Total time reading: 3 hours

Mini Challenge #5

Directions: I like books. Not just reading books, looking at them. There's just something about a shelf full of books that makes me incredibly happy, and if the books are put on the shelf in an interesting way, it's even better. For this challenge, I want to see your shelves. Just take a picture (or a few) of your bookshelves, or a video if that's more your style, and post it on your blog, then link to the post in the comments.

Here are my pictures.....

^^There's at least a couple of books in each drawer of that thing. I really need to get it organized. Lol.^^

^^The books in these two pictures are all books that I've read, except for a couple.^^

This challenge has made me realize yet again that I need to get some kind of organization going on in regards to my books. I could take at least 3 more pictures of other places where I have books sitting in my room.

I do own a bookshelf! It's just not in my possession right now...... (Moved 2 years ago. Friend helped. Had to leave, and took my bookshelf with him. Just haven't gotten it back yet. Been meaning to..... Whoops.....)

Read Dangerously Read-a-thon - Day 2 Updates and Mini Challenges

Update

Currently reading: I finished reading The Darkest Kiss (Lords of the Underworld #2) by Gena Showalter. Now I'm going to start The Darkest Pleasure (Lords of the Underworld #3) by Gena Showalter. (I am sooo not even going to finish a whole book for this read-a-thon. I can only read like 2 hours tonight, cuz I have to work tomorrow. Then, when I get off work in the morning, I have to come home and take a nap, cuz I have to work tomorrow night too. Darn it! I always have to work during a read-a-thon. Oh well.... Still having fun!)

Pages read: Part of 1 book

Books read: 103 pages

Total time reading: 3 hours

 Mini Challenge #3

Directions: For this challenge, you must answer the following question.

What are you reading?
Easy, right? Now the catch. You must answer in 7 words or less. And you can't just say the title of the book, or more unoriginally 'a book', you must describe what you're reading.

Demon of Pain craves fiesty blonde chick.

Mini Challenge #4

Directions: Everyone loves to see their favorite books turned into movies, and most people know who'd they'd like to play all the characters. So for this challenge, I want you to cast one or more of the characters from one of your read-a-thon books. Just like the first challenge, don't drive yourself crazy trying to do this one (this is a message for myself and all the other people like me, who don't immediately have an idea of what actor would be good for certain characters).

I am casting Danika and Reyes from
The Darkest Pleasure (Lords of the Underworld #3) by Gena Showalter

My Reyes is.....

Joe Manganiello!

(Ahhh..... Yum! *fans self*)

My Danika is.....

Anna Paquin!

(I know..... I know..... You think I'm obsessed with True Blood. Lol. Well, I'm not..... Not completely.....)

I think those two would be great together as Reyes and Danika. Anna is a tiny blonde thing (like Danika) when you pair her with tall, buff Joe (which is exactly what Reyes is). That was fun. *shakes head* Ok.... Gotta stop staring at Joe.....

No more distractions..... Time is not my friend right now.....

Read Dangerously Read-a-thon - Day 1 Updates and Mini Challenges

Afternoon Update

Currently reading: I'm going to finish reading The Darkest Kiss (Lords of the Underworld #2) by Gena Showalter. (I'm on page 265 right now.)

Pages read: 0 books

Books read: 0 pages

Total time reading: 0 hours

Mini Challenge #1

Directions: For this mini challenge, I want you to pick 1 to 3 songs that fit the book you're currently reading. You can explain why they fit, or just list the songs. Remember, this is supposed to be a fun, quick challenge, so don't drive yourself crazy trying to come up with something.

I am currently reading: The Darkest Kiss (Lords of the Underworld #2) by Gena Showalter

My Song Picks

"Miss Murder" by AFI
"World So Cold" by Three Days Grace
"Supermassive Black Hole" by Muse

I picked those three, because they're loud. I just kind of think of loud soundtrack playing in the background when I'm reading this book.

Mini Challenge #2

Directions: This one's super easy. All you have to do is share a mini excerpt from your current read. Just make sure it's not spoilery.

I am currently reading....
The Darkest Kiss (Lords of the Underworld #2)
by Gena Showalter

My mini excerpt......

I'VE COME TO KILL YOU.
The words echoed through Anya's mind, a bleak promise she couldn't quiet. Lucien never joked. She knew that well. Had watched him all these weeks without seeing a single smile or hearing a hint of humor pass his exquisite lips. More than that, the spirit of Death radiated from him now, a skeletal mask glowing underneath his skin.

Read Dangerously Read-a-thon - Starting Line

Yay! It's time for another read-a-thon. This is gonna be a hard one for me. I have to work every day of it. (Yuck!) So, my goal is to finish my current read and read another whole book.

Read-a-thon Stats

Currently reading: I'm going to finish reading The Darkest Kiss (Lords of the Underworld #2) by Gena Showalter. (I'm on page 265 right now.)

Pages read: 0 books

Books read: 0 pages

Total time reading: 0 hours

Ok.... I get 20 minutes to read before I have to go back to work. Maybe I should turn off the TV. Supernatural is kind of distracting. *sighs* Oh, Sam and Dean..... (Technically, I probably love their father more than them. Lol. But he's not in this episode.)

Happy reading everyone!

Kiss Me Kill Me (Scarlett Wakefield #1) by Lauren Henderson

Kiss Me Kill Me (Scarlett Wakefield, #1)Kiss Me Kill Me by Lauren Henderson

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I'm gonna have to go with 3 stars for this one. I liked it, but I didn't love it. I picked this up cuz it had been on my TBR, and it was on clearance for 2 bucks.

It was a nice YA read for me. I read A LOT of paranormal/fantasy/supernatural type books. So, this was something pretty different from normal.

Scarlett attends an all-girls school called St. Tabby's. She does gymnastics, and has 2 BFFs who are also in gymnastics. She and her friends are not popular at all. The popular girls of the school are all super rich and 'pretty'. So, of course they like to make fun of those not in their group.

So, when Scarlett gets invited to a party at one of the popular girl's homes, she jumps at the chance. Not only will she be attending a party, her hot crush, Dan, will also be there.

At the party, not only is Scarlett lucky enough to have Dan talk to her, he kisses her. And that is the start of their long relationship together...... Uh..... NOT..... In the middle of kissing Scarlett, Dan dies. (And now this book has a mystery....)

Scarlett leaves St. Tabby's, and begins attending school at Wakefield Hall where her grandmother is the headmistress.

Scarlett is still dealing with the fact that she may somehow have killed Dan with her kiss, when she receives a note that says it wasn't her fault. She then sets off to clear her name.

I enjoyed the mystery of this. I want to know how Dan died, and whether it was an accident or if somebody was actually out to kill him.

I liked the whole boarding school thing. I also liked that it's set in Britain. Something a little different for me.

I feel kind of 'eh' about the fact that there's four books in this series. I finished the book, which means that I was interested enough to read the whole thing. But, it wasn't super exciting, so I'm kind of not so much looking forward to reading three more books to find out what happened.

I plan to continue on with the series when I get a chance. I really want to know what happened to Dan. Darn mysteries. That's how they get you to keep reading.

Kiss Me Kill Me (Scarlett Wakefield #1)

"Every question he asks is like a file grating directly onto my skin, cutting me raw. Which is odd, because he has a really nice voice, deep and warm."
